Das magazine unter anderem an dem Forschungsparadigma liegen, welches Ambiguität wesentlich zu einem genuinen Epochenkennzeichen der Moderne stilisiert.  Der interdisziplinär ausgerichtete Tagungsband zeigt daher unter Beteiligung von Fachwissenschaftlerinnen und -wissenschaftlern aus den Bereichen Literaturwissenschaft, Geschichte, Kunstgeschichte, Lateinische Philologie und Islamwissenschaft das breite Spektrum an Diskursen und Wissenskontexten der komplexen Thematik auf.  Ziel ist es, die Phänomene der Mehr- und Zweideutigkeit anhand von theoretischen Exkursen und Fallbeispielen in ihren jeweiligen kulturellen und literarischen Kontexten zu untersuchen und die vermeintliche ‚Ambiguitätsferne‘ der mittelalterlichen Kultur und Literatur auf den Prüfstand zu stellen.
